1 - CrackedFinger community keeps on growing .

Summer has truly arrived at last! If in doubt a glance at the grey skies and rain should make it certain! But before we all go running off to warmer climes, remember there's more at crackedfinger.com than just the store. Our directory contains over five hundred listings of interest to martial arts enthusiasts, from discussion boards to clubs and suppliers. We allow the (free!) addition of sites on an ongoing basis, so if you run a website that you think our customers might be interested in, the directory is a quick and handy way to advertise.

The directory can be found at http://www.crackedfinger.com/community.cgi

If you run a martial arts club and don`t have an internet presence, we can help you get one! Clubs@CrackedFinger is a free resource that allows club owners to publish for themselves, with no need to know HTML! Check it out at http://www.crackedfinger.com/clubs/

While you`re visiting the site, don`t forget to check out http://www.crackedfinger.com/team/team.shtml to find out how our sponsored students are getting along. Hannah Hughes, one of our Judo students, recently brought home a silver medal from the Midland Under-20s Open at Stoke. Lucas Rowe, meanwhile, triumphed at the Samurai Junior Open Championships, bringing home the gold. In the field of kick-boxing, Leanne Emerson won the light contact and semi contact events at both the Lichiban English Open in Kidderminster, and the Superleague at Windsor. We`re proud of all of them, and wish them ongoing success!

We send out regular newsletters to over a thousand subscribers, and with your help we will continue our success and growth as both a supplier and a community resource.

4 - The UK Martial Arts Festival For People With Disabilities - Now Under The New Name Of 'Breaking Down Barriers'

Article Submitted by Terry Taylor, please contact Terry directly regarding this event.

The above Festival Programme has now got even bigger! Previously we were a regional event for The South of England. However we continue to receive enquiries from all over the UK. The time is therefore now right for this Programme - ten years old next year! - to expand to a national programme thus reflecting both the considerable interest and wide areas of participation that it has increasingly attracted and no doubt will continue to do so.

For some history of the Programme please have a look at the website indicated below.

The next dates for your calendar are:

Thursday 16th November 2006: Festival and Competition Day. This has always proved to be a truly enjoyable day for all concerned. If you have never tried out martial arts before but are interested in doing so please get in touch via the website for an Application Form. The Competition (based on kata/forms/patterns) is open to all practising martial artists with disabilities;

Saturday 18th November 2006: Conference Day. It is intended from this that we will grow a formal Development Plan so that, as instructors from all martial arts styles, you will be able to take back valuable experience to your clubs right across the UK and actively recruit people with disabilities. Delegates and instructors will be able to gain quality experience from the sessions that have already been planned as well as learn from others who are already involved with such work. We have a number of guest speakers already booked from both overseas as well as here in the UK who will be making undoubtedly valuable (or is it invaluable?) contributions from their own experiences in disability martial arts.

Both days will be held at White Oak Leisure Centre, Swanley, Kent. The Festival Programme is kindly supported by Sencio Community Leisure, Kent Sports Development Unit, London Sports Forum for People with Disabilities and Shikon (amongst others).

I am pleased to report we already have a number of people informally 'booked' for Festival Day. Whilst we have more spaces as yet to fill, past experience has shown that demand to attend the Festival has always been extremely high (300+ came in 1998). Early booking is therefore very strongly advised (including informally).

Please therefore come along and have a truly enjoyable experience. The Festival Programme has an ever-growing network of martial artists/instructors with whom it can link you up to. Indeed, its Chairman, Terry Taylor as part of his own shotokan karate club runs long distance training sessions once a month on Saturdays for those not necessarily based in Kent so that as a person with a disability, you can access training to meet your specific needs.

For further enquiries please therefore contact the Programme as below and do have a look at the website as there is plenty of other information and feedback for all of you.
