The BRITISH KUNG FU ASSOCIATION’s ‘LAU’ SYSTEM SCHOOLS OF SHAO LIN KUNG FU & RAPTORS LAU KICKBOXING
The RAPTORS Schools are a regional division of the British Kung Fu Association. Established in 1972, the B.K.F.A. is the largest Chinese Martial Arts organisation in the UK. Chaired by the Chinese Master of the 'Lau Gar' Kung Fu style, Master J Yau, the Association provides instruction in Authentic traditional Martial Arts, competitive fighting as well as many associated subjects. These club's are organised by Mr John Young 2nd deg Black Belt in lau Kickboxing & 1st deg black sash Lau Gar Kung Fu under the guidence of Mr S J Newby (Sifu), Chief Instructor for the region. Mr Newby, a fifth degree Black sash, trains under his Chinese teacher, Master Yau, one of the World's leading Martial Arts Masters. Mr Newby continues to conducts seminars throughout the UK with his team of dedicated Instructors.
Our members are able to maintain a genuine, Historic link to the style's foundation in South West China. Our Kung Fu system of Lau Gar Kuin, is known as one of the 'five famous sects', namely Lau, Hung, Choi, Li and Mok Gar. The classes offer traditional Lau training and, in addition to the natural qualities of the style's comprehensive syllabus, provide complete individual syllabi to coaching qualifications in Practical Self-Defence and independent modern Kickboxing. Lau is the most successful style of fighting in the semi contact circuits of the World and has proved it’s worth as the most dominant style in competition.
Classical Chinese weaponry is taught throughout the advanced stages of Lau training, (such as Broad Sword, 'Eye brow' pole, 'Rat tail' pole, Spear, 'Kwun Dou', 'Butterfly' Double Swords and 'Tiger Fork'); classes also provide training for fitness with Bag and pad work, circuit training and/or body toning with stretching for both Men and Women, and (optional) Tournament fighting. Regular Courses, Seminars and Competitions make up additional training opportunities for all our members.
Training is very informative as well as physical, with a friendly, family atmosphere. You will feel safe in the knowledge that the advanced members will offer friendly advice with discipline, control and respect. If you have provided a deposit, (returnable) or paid your full membership, you will receive your first class Free of charge. There are a range of memberships on offer to suit all enthusiasts; regular class meetings are charged from £3.50 per session, with ‘double discount sessions available. Non- membership lessons are provided at £5 per session, but for only a limited period.
