| GRANDMASTER SHOTO TANEMURA |
SHOTO TANEMURA SOKE Soke Shoto Tanemura was born on August 28, 1947 in the town of Matsubushi in Saitama prefecture, Japan. He majored in law and became a police officer then later became an instructor at the Tokyo Metropolitan police academy. Tanemura Sensei was taught from the young age of nine by his father and fathers uncle. His father, Sadatsune Tanemura was the 17th family head of a Samurai tradition, whose roots can be traced back to the Emperors Uda and Seiwa.Sadatsuna Sensei was an expert in Kenjutsu, Jukenjutsu, Shizen ryu Jujutsu and Takeda ryu Ninjutsu. Training was very severe for the young Tanemura Sensei, and was conducted outdoors.The young Tanemura was regulary knocked unconcious and then brought around with a bucket of icy cold water.Once awake, he was expected to continue his training. At the age of fifteen, he began to study Shindo Muso ryu Kenpo and was also initiated into the famous Asayama Ichiden ryu along with Takagi Yoshin ryu Jujutsu, Gikan ryu Koppojutsu etc.His training was so intense that he received Menkyo Kaiden in many traditional schools by the age of twenty.
