Originally these techniques were known as Koshijutsu, Koppojutsu, Hichojutsu etc...and Dakentaijutsu, Taijutsu and Yawara. The traditional patterns of the various Koryu within the KJJR system trains the student in both Yoroi Kumiuchi (fighting in armor style) and Suhada Jujutsu (fighting in ordinary clothes style).
The Kokusai Jujutsu Renmei was established in 1991 for the preservation and transmission of authentic Japanese Jujutsu.
