Founded in 1948 by Mervyn Sumpter upon his release from service with the Royal Navy, Kettering Premier Judo Club is one of the oldest in the United Kingdom.
Starting initially with about 6 members, the club was first based in an old Nissen hut in Roundhill Road.
Recent senior coach Brian Waite was the first player in the club to gain a competitive black belt.
Over the years KPJC has become well known in the world of judo, producing many senior and junior champions, including those that have gone on to represent their country.
