Horsted Shotokan Karate

Horsted Shotokan Karate Association was inaugurated in May 1991. Throughout that time its base has always been in Chatham, Kent during which time hundreds of students have taken part in the numerous activities that have been laid on e.g. regular training sessions, gradings, competitions and demo's.
Indeed particularly since our Clubs affiliated to the YKKF (Yodansha Kobujitsu Karate-doh Federation) in 1998 that calendar has become even busier as they themselves offer numerous training courses for all their students.

Ever since the Association came in to being we have always welcomed people with a wide variety of disabilities e.g. visually impaired (our main area of work), deaf, cerebral palsy, those with learning difficulties and many other disability groups.

Our policy is to provide quality instruction to all our students, whether disabled or not and on an integrated and equal basis.

Our own dojo's have been honoured by visiting guest instructors from both the UK and overseas for special courses. These have also been attended by students from outside our Association. We believe this is just as important an element of our students' training as attending regular weekly lessons as it widens the scope of their training and increases their knowledge of 'all things karate'. To this end we ask that a minimum of 75% of all lessons are attended to attain grading eligibility.
